"Abhidhamma for Daily Life" by Sayadaw Dr Nandamālābhivaμsa

We are pleased to invite all interested devotees to a 9-day course on Abhidhamma for Daily Life to be conducted by the famous Sayadaw Dr Nandamālābhivaμsa, Rector of the International Theravada Buddhist Mission University (ITBMU), Yangon, Myanmar. The course will be conducted in English.

Duration : 9 days, 2 Dec (Sat) to 10 Dec (Sun) 2006
Time : 3:00 - 5:00 pm & 7:30 – 9:30pm
Course fee : Free ( donations are welcome )
Registration : Please register before 3 Nov 2006

Acceptance will be on first-come-first-serve basis.
Teaching materials will be provided. Please bring along your copy of the basic text ‘Fundamental Abhidhamma – Part I’ by Sayadaw Dr Nandamala if you already have. Part I Mp3 audio files will be added in SMC webpage soon.

About the Sayadaw

Dr Nandamālābhivaμsa was born in Myanmar on 22 March 1940 and was ordained as a Novice Monk at the age of 10. At 16, he was conferred Dhammacariya (Teacher of the Dhamma) by the Government of Myanmar and at 21 he was conferred Abhivamsa
(Higher Lineage).
He obtained an M.A. degree from Kelaniya University, Colombo, Sri Lanka, and a Ph.D. from Magadh University in Bodh-Gaya, Vihar, India. In 2000 he was conferred the title "Aggamahapandita" (Senior Scholar) by the Government of Myanmar.

Dr Nandamālābhivaμsa is one of the founders of Buddhist Teaching Centre, Maha Subhodhayon in Sagaing, Myanmar, where about two hundred monks receive education in Buddhist Philosophy and Buddhist Literature annually. Since 2003, he has been travelling regularly to Europe to conduct Abhidhamma courses. In 1997 he was appointed the Rector of the Sitagu International Buddhist Academy in Sagaing. In 2005 he was appointed the Rector of ITMBU, the post he now holds.

Dr Mehm Tin Mon (Saddhamma Jotikadhaja, Professor of International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University, Myanmar) is conducting a series of Dhamma discussions on Abhidhamma in Burmese on 15-22 Oct. All are welcome to attend the Dhamma discussions.

Brief Biography

Dr. M. Tin Mon, B.Sc.Hons., M.Sc., Ph. D.
(Saddhamma Jotikadhaja, Professor of International Theravada Buddhist Missionary University, Myanmar)

Dr. Mehm Tin Mon was born on 13th January 1934. He was educated in Myanmar and the United States. He got his B.Sc.(Hons.) and M.Sc. from Yangon University and his Ph.D from University of Illinois. He had a thirty-six year University Service in various capacities retiring as Professor of Chemistry in 1992.  

Dr. Mehm Tin Mon has written over thirty books on education as well as on Buddhism. He traveled throughout Myanmar delivering lectures on Buddhism and conducting short intensive classes of Abhidhamma. He was awarded the title of "Saddhamma Jotakadhaja" by the Government of the Union of Myanmar in 1994 for his outstanding contribution to the propagation of Buddhism.

Dr. Mehm Tin Mon was appointed as an Adviser to the Ministry of Religious Affairs on August 1, 1993, and he has been serving the State in this capacity ever since.
