| Sayadaw U Rajinda
was born on 30 November 1949 in Shwebo District, Myanmar. He became a novice monk
(Samanera) at the age of 10 and then a fully ordained monk (Bikkhu) of Theravada Monastic
Order at the age of 20. After receiving the degree, Sasanadhajha Dhamma Cariya in Pali
Scriptures in 1983, he taught Buddhist Scriptures for 2 years in Ye-U Town. This religious
service was done as his gratitude to his learned teachers from Ye-U.
In 1986, the Sayadaw went to the Main Mahasi Meditation Centre in Yangon to practise
Vipassana meditation, strictly following the techniques devised by Mahasi Sayadaw. He then
served at the Centre for 2 years in various capacities under the supervision of Sayadaw U
Panditabhivamsa.
He was sent to Penang in 1990 to teach meditation at the Malaysia Buddhist Meditation
Centre, where he served for 3 years. He came to Singapore as the Religious Advisor to the
Buddha Dhamma Mandala Society in 1993. He was also instrumental to the birth of the
Vipassana Meditation Centre in Singapore. Since 1999 he has been providing religious
support to Bodhirama Estate (KKB), a branch of the Selangor Buddhist Vipassana Meditation
Society. |
