We are pleased to invite you to 9-day Vipassana meditation retreat will be conducted under the guidance of Sayadaw U Rajinda and Bhante Pannavudha from 30 June (Sat) to 8 July (Sun) at Poh Ern Shih (Temple of Thanksgiving). Details are as follows:

About the Sayadaw

Venerable Dr. Dhammapiya was born in Myanmar ( Burma ). He became a novice monk (samanera) at the age of nine and a fully ordained monk (bhikkhu) of the Theravada Monastic Order at the age of twenty. In 1980, he received his degree in Sasanadhaja Dhammacariya in Pali scriptures. In the same year, he started practising Vipassana meditation at Mahasi Sasana Yeiktha, Yangon, Myanmar.


In 1982, he became a permanent resident of Mahasi Meditation Centre in Yangon, Myanmar. And taught Vipassana meditation to monks, novice monks, nuns and yogis and conducted meditation retreats at various towns throughout Myanmar.

In 1986, he was assigned by Venerable Sayadaw U Panditabhivamsa (Panditarama Sayadaw) to reside at the Malaysian Buddhist Meditation Center (MBMC) in Penang, Malaysia. During his residency in Penang, he taught local and foreign yogis at MBMC and accompanied Sayadaw U Panditabhivamsa on teaching trips to Singapore, Thailand , Nepal, United Kingdom, Germany, Australia, Canada and the United States.
 

In 1992, Venerable Dr. Dhammapiya was invited to be the abbot of Tathagata Meditation Centre, San Jose, California, USA, where he taught Vipassana meditation and Buddhist Cultural training courses to the young adults at the center during the summer school holidays. While residing at the centre, he completed his BA (Comparative Religions) in 1997 and MA (Philosophy) in 1998 at the San Jose State
University, California.


In 1999, Venerable Dr Dhammapiya established the Mettananda Vihara Dhamma Yeiktha meditation centre in Fremont , California . He continues to teach Vipassana (insight) and Metta (loving-kindness) meditation to beginners and experienced yogis and also conducts the basic Buddhist Cultural training courses for young adult students in Fremont. The same courses are offered at his own monastery, Ngar
Gyan Pyan Sasana Yeiktha, in Yangon,. While residing at the centre, he completed his Ph.D. (Philosophy) at the California Institute, San Francisco, California in 2003.


He now teaches Vipassana (insight) meditation and Metta (loving-kindness) meditation to the yogis in the United States, Myanmar (Burma), and other foreign countries.

Monthly Group Meditation Session

Group Meditation Session will be on every last week Sunday of the month, 8.30 am to 5 pm.  All are welcome to join us in the group meditation session. Lunch will be provided. Please register at the notice board in SMC.

GUIDELINES for Yogis:
1. No reading of books during meditation 2. No talking during meditation and lunch time. Please try to maintain continuity of mindfulness.
